AI Sales Agent Pricing in 2026: Per Seat, Per Conversation or Per Qualified Lead?
AI sales agents and AI SDRs are sold five different ways. Here is what each model charges for, what it costs in practice, and how to compare them on cost per qualified lead.
An AI sales agent (often called an inbound AI SDR or a sales chatbot) talks to the people already on your website or in your WhatsApp and Instagram inbox, works out what they need and moves the right ones to a sales next step. The products look similar in a demo. The pricing does not: the same month of traffic can cost ten times more under one model than another.
This guide compares the five pricing models you will meet, with prices as vendors and pricing guides reported them in October 2026. Prices change often, so check each vendor’s page before you buy.
The five pricing models
| Model | What you pay for | Reported examples (Oct 2026) | Fits when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Per seat or subscription | Users or a monthly plan | AI SDR tools commonly $180–499 per user per month; Dashly inbound AI SDR from about $500 per month | Steady, predictable volume | Paying the same in a quiet month; minimum seats |
| Per conversation or message | Every AI conversation | Tidio Lyro from $39 per month for 50 AI conversations, about $0.50–0.70 each at volume | Low traffic, support-style questions | Unresolved and unqualified chats still count |
| Per resolution | Conversations the AI closes | Intercom Fin about $0.99 per resolution on top of seat plans; guides also report about $9.99 per sales qualification | Support deflection | A resolved chat is not a sale; seat fees still apply |
| Annual contract | An “AI SDR” hired for a year | Qualified Piper is quoted per account; third-party estimates start around $40,000 per year | Enterprise teams on Salesforce | Long commitment before you see results |
| Per qualified lead | Visitors who qualify as real prospects | Sonic Prospect: first 5 qualified prospects free, then $5.99 each through #1,000, then $9.99 | You want cost tied to sales outcomes | How “qualified” is defined and how you dispute it |
Compare on cost per qualified lead
List prices are not comparable. Cost per qualified lead is: take what you would pay in a month and divide it by the visitors who turn into real sales prospects.
An illustrative month: 2,000 AI conversations on your website, 4% of them (80 people) are qualified prospects.
- Per conversation at $0.70: 2,000 × $0.70 = $1,400, so $17.50 per qualified lead.
- Per resolution at $0.99, 60% resolved: 1,200 × $0.99 = $1,188 plus seats, so at least $14.85 per qualified lead.
- Flat $500 per month: $6.25 per qualified lead at 80, but $50 in a month with only 10.
- Per qualified lead (Sonic Prospect, first month): 5 free + 75 × $5.99 = $449.25, so $5.62 per qualified lead. With 10 qualified prospects the bill is $29.95, and standard conversations with visitors who do not qualify cost $0.
The assumptions are deliberately simple. Run the same calculation with your own traffic and qualification rate: the model that wins depends on how many of your conversations are sales-relevant.
What “qualified” has to mean
Pay-per-outcome pricing is only as good as its definition. Before you sign, get answers to these:
- What evidence makes a visitor qualified? Intent alone (“I want to buy”) should not be enough; fit and readiness for a next step should be required.
- Can the same person be charged twice? Across website, WhatsApp and Instagram, one person should be one prospect.
- Can you see why each prospect qualified? You should be able to read the conversation behind every charge.
- How do you dispute a charge? There should be a clear window and process.
- Do conversations, messages or channels cost extra? They should not, if you are paying for outcomes.
Sonic Prospect answers these in its terms: a Qualified Prospect needs sufficient evidence of real purchase intent, fit and readiness for a purchase-related next step; each qualification is billed once; standard conversations (up to 20 answers per visitor a day), messages and channels are not billed. Optional extended conversations, off by default, cost $0.01 per answer past 20 and are never charged when the conversation became a Qualified Prospect. See the Sonic Prospect page for the full definition.
When per-qualified-lead pricing is not the best fit
- Support deflection: if the goal is answering “where is my order?”, per-resolution pricing measures the right thing.
- Outbound prospecting: cold email and LinkedIn tools are priced on contacts or messages; an inbound agent does not replace them.
- Very high volumes of low-value leads: at thousands of qualified leads a month, a negotiated flat contract can be cheaper.
Questions to ask every vendor
- What exactly is the billable unit, and what does not count?
- What will I pay in a quiet month and in my busiest month?
- Are seats, channels, languages or integrations billed separately?
- Is there a minimum commitment or annual contract?
- Can I test it on my own traffic before committing?

Frequently asked questions
How much does an AI sales agent cost?
It depends on the pricing model. Per-seat AI SDR tools are commonly reported at $180–499 per user per month, chat-based agents at roughly $0.50–0.99 per conversation or resolution on top of a plan, and enterprise inbound platforms on custom annual contracts. Pay-per-qualified-lead models charge only when a visitor qualifies; Sonic Prospect’s first 5 qualified prospects are free, then $5.99 each through the first 1,000.
What is the cheapest way to pay for an AI SDR?
Compare cost per qualified lead, not list price. Divide what you would pay in a month by the qualified leads you expect. Per-conversation and per-seat models get expensive when traffic is high but few visitors qualify; per-qualified-lead pricing keeps the cost tied to the outcome.
What does pay per qualified lead mean for an AI sales agent?
You pay only when the agent decides, with evidence, that a visitor has real purchase intent and fit and is ready for a sales next step. Conversations, messages and visitors who do not qualify cost nothing. Ask the vendor how "qualified" is defined and how you can review and dispute a charge.
